Skylanders: Giants was a sequel to Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. It features 8 new giants, 8 new LightCores, and 8 new Skylanders. Spyro is a reposed Series 2 character. The storyline does not revolve around Spyro whatsoever.
 Initial Release
The game was released for the gaming systems 3DS, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and PC. It had a Portal Owners pack (for people who already had Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure) which came with the game and a Tree Rex figure. Console starter packs came with the Portal of Power, Tree Rex, Cynder (S2), and Jet-Vac, and the game. The 3DS starter pack comes with the Portal of Power, game, Tree Rex, Cynder, and Pop Fizz. Specific versions come with a Glow In The Dark Portal of Power, Glow In The Dark Cynder, and Punch Pop Fizz.
Once again, the Skylanders army must take down Kaos after he returns to power. This time, however, the storyline elaborates much more on the ancient Arkeyan society. Kaos is trying to get the Iron Fist of Arkus, which gave the ancient Arkeyan Robot King power to control Skylands.
The Giants (also known as "Elder Elementals") put a stop to the Arkeyan Robot King 10,000 years ago, but now Kaos has unearthed information about it--and the ancient Arkeyan City of Arkus. The Portal Master has to collect the Giants who have not been seen in Skylands for 10,000 years and use them to defeat Kaos.
It is still a platformer game, and there are more collectibles to collect. The game is a dungeon crawler just like the former, meaning there is no jumping capability but instead you use Bounce Pads.
Eon guides the player throughout the console versions of the game.
 Skylanders Army
There are now 48 different Skylanders. 8 giants, 8 new Skylanders, and 24 returning figures (reposed figures with a new wow-pow capability). Reposed figures are known as Series 2 figures, and all Skylanders released during the Giants era have an orange bottom.
There are also now 8 new LightCore Skylanders. These figures light up physically and seem to glow in-game, and have a Flash Bomb Effect when they first appear in-game. These figures include Pop Fizz, Drobot, Jet-Vac, Prism Break, Eruptor, Shroomboom, Hex, and Chill.
Chill, however, had a one-of-a-kind version of her created: Legendary LightCore Chill.
Sunburn, Wham-Shell, Warnado, Dino-Rang, Camo, Ghost Roaster, Boomer, and Voodood were not carried over and reposed in Giants, but work in the Skylanders: Giants game, along with all older Series 1 figures.
Rather than there just being one Elemental Dragon in every element, Flashwing, the new Earth Skylander, is a gem dragon. This makes the Earth Element the only element to have more than one dragon.
